Between 1430 and 1432, Canon Theodore Scratchley composed the foundational text of The Scrotery. His manuscript remains the authoritative guide to the Order's philosophy, rituals, and traditions.
About The Book
The Book of Scrotomany is dense, poetic, occasionally obscure, and considered by many scholars to be the world's first accidental self-help text. It weaves together:
- Philosophical treatises on duality and balance
- Ritual instructions for ceremonies and observances
- Allegorical stories illustrating the principles
- Historical accounts of the Order's early days
- Mystical poetry exploring sacred themes
Members study The Book for years, often discovering new meanings with each reading. The text is deliberately layered, revealing itself gradually to those with patience and dedication.
Selected Chapters
The complete Book contains 47 chapters. Below are excerpts from select chapters available to the public:
Chapter 1: On the Duality of Man
"Consider the two orbs, suspended in eternal harmony. They do not struggle against each other, nor does one seek dominance over the other. They simply exist, in balance, in support, in sacred duality. So too must we learn to exist."

Chapter 3: In Perfect Balance Lies Perfect Strength
"The burden that hangs unevenly causes discomfort. The burden that is supported equally brings stability. This is not merely physical truth but spiritual law. When we achieve balance, we achieve power."

Chapter 7: Of Support, and the Art Thereof
"No man is an island, though many pretend to be. The wise man knows he needs support. The enlightened man provides it. The Scrotorian does both, and in doing so, embodies the principle."

Chapter 12: The Perils of Sudden Cold
"When warmth gives way to cold without warning, the body contracts, seeking to protect what is sacred. This is natural response, not weakness. The Order teaches us to anticipate the cold, to prepare for it, and to endure it with grace when it arrives unbidden."

Chapter 24: The Great Lift of 1724
"On that fateful day, the Grand Hanger stood before the assembly and demonstrated what would come to be known as The Great Lift. The gathering was forever changed. Those present spoke of enlightenment, of revelation, of understanding made manifest through action."

Chapter 33: The Ceremony of the Golden Pouch
"The initiate is presented with the symbolic pouch, golden in hue, sacred in purpose. Within it are contained all the mysteries, all the teachings, all the wisdom of the Order. Yet the pouch itself is empty. This paradox is the first lesson."
